How do I schedule an evaluation?

Before completing an evaluation, the first step is to call our main office! A referral you’re your primary care doctor will be requested.

What are mental health assessments?

During a mental health evaluation, we gather information to understand the way a person feels, reasons, thinks, and remembers. Through questions and physical tests, an individual’s mental health needs and treatment plan will be determined.

What should I expect during a mental health evaluation?

The professional will first determine if the person seeking help is a danger to themselves or others, evaluating the need for immediate help or psychiatric intervention. The professional will then ask for permission to obtain medical records from other providers to review past medical history. They will also ask permission to discuss treatment with spouses and/or other family members. Next, the professional will conduct various techniques, which may include written questionnaires and interviews. Common topics covered during this evaluation include symptoms, family history, medication list, and any other substance use.

What is a psychological assessment?

Tests and other assessment tools are used to measure and observe a client’s behavior for diagnosis and guide treatment. Children who are having trouble in school may be asked to complete tests for learning disabilities. If a person is having trouble in personal relationships, this evaluation can help a psychologist determine if anger management issues, interpersonal skills, or specific personality traits contribute to the problem. Other tests can be used evaluate clients for emotional disorders such as anxiety or depression. Psychological tests and assessments allow a psychologist to understand the problem and figure out the best way to help.

What happens in a psychological evaluation?

This assessment involves the use of questionnaires, a clinical interview, a review of school or medical records, medical evaluation, and/or observational data.  The psychologists use information from the various tests and assessments to reach a specific diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.

What is neuropsychological testing?

Neuropsychological testing and evaluations assess how an individual’s bran function affects behavior, mood, and thinking. During this process, a trained evaluator assesses skills including problem solving, memory, attention span, processing speed, reasoning, and dexterity.

What does neuropsychological testing diagnose?

Neuropsychological testing can help diagnose a variety of causes for changes in behavior or mood including epilepsy, brain tumors, Alzheimer’s disease, brain injuries, Parkinson’s, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, dyslexia, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders.
